Orally administered 17-DMAG prior to irradiation increased mouse survival. (A) Administration of a single oral dose of 17-DMAG (10 mg/kg) 24 h prior to irradiation at 8.75 Gy increased mouse 30-day survival by 20–25 % (p < 0.001, n = 16 mice per group) versus (vs.) vehicle-treated irradiated (Veh/RI) animals. Furthermore, pretreatment of a single oral dose of 17-DMAG given 24 to 72 h before irradiation at 8.75 Gy was still effective to improve survival. 17-DMAG (10 mg/kg) given 24 (B), 48 (C), or 72 h (D) before irradiation increased survival of irradiated mice by 20% above the vehicle-treated irradiated mice (p < 0.001, n = 16 per group).
