Fig. 5

Time courses of Ca2+-fluorescence signals of vital fluo-3 loaded MG-63 cells growing on different chemical surface compositions. The addition of ATP is highlighted at the time point 180 s (90th cycle). Note that cells on Ti + PPAAm showed significantly increased intracellular calcium signals after ATP stimulation. Cells on the control IBIDI indicated not only a weaker basal calcium signal (without ATP) but also a significantly weaker calcium ion mobilization after ATP compared with osteoblasts on Ti, Ti + PPAAm, and Ti + Col. (LSM780, Carl Zeiss; 3 independent approaches for 10 defined areas each of 10 cells per time point, polygon line as the mean ± s.e.m., multiple t-test, *p < 0.05). Explanations: 1 = Ti vs. Ti + PPAAm, 2 = Ti vs. Ti + Col, 3 = Ti vs. IBIDI, 4 = Ti + PPAAm vs. Ti + Col, 5 = Ti + PPAAm vs. IBIDI, 6 = Ti + Col vs. IBIDI
